Summer 2025 Newsletter
In the work we do as a public hospital district, we have the privilege of supporting people in some of the most difficult times of their lives. Our services are directed at providing resources and care to vulnerable populations on San Juan Island. Below, you can learn about just a few of the services we support within our community.
Village at Home I 535 Market Street, Suite E
Our newest service, Village at Home, offers care services to people in their homes. Village at Home is the only licensed home care service in the county. Our employees are fully background checked, licensed, and trained. Nobody plans to need these services, just as nobody plans to take a terrible fall or experience a serious health condition. Dozens of people every month, and their families, benefit from the availability of these services, which allows people to remain in this community connected to their families and loved ones in a way that is not otherwise possible.
Village at the Harbor I 543 Spring Street
Experiencing a loved one’s sudden decline can be heartbreaking. For many, parents have always been a source strength and stability, making it especially difficult to witness them facing isolation, reduced mobility, and the many challenges that come with aging and chronic illnesses.
Although many wait as long as they can, transitioning loved ones into assisted living often ends up being a beautiful moment. Assisted living can give loved ones a chance to connect with other people in a meaningful way and get the help they need to resume more daily function.
As we talk with the many state agencies that regulate our services – from annual state audits to state fire marshal checks to Medicaid representatives to DSHS licensors – one theme is consistent: Village at the Harbor is a special place.
Our residents are taken care of in a compassionate and consistent way. The building and grounds are beautiful. Our prices are competitive, despite the high cost of living in the area. The food is wonderful. It is full of activities, laughter, and hope. Many people end up regretting not making the transition to assisted living sooner.
Planned Parenthood and Reproductive Services I 145 Rhone St.
In 2025, Mount Baker Planned Parenthood merged with Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and Idaho. This regional service has over a dozen sites, including our location in Friday Harbor. In Friday Harbor, the main services provided are STI testing and birth control. Other services are referred to different clinics. The location is now with San Juan County Community Health services.
San Juan County Public Hospital District No. 1 is proud to be a key part of keeping our Island Community healthy. For further information on the services we offer and support, please visit our website at www.sjcphd1.org
