Housing For Healthcare Workers Project
San Juan County Public Hospital District No. 1 is seeking federal funding for our Housing for Healthcare Workers Project. The project will provide 32 apartment units near Peace Island Medical Center and San Juan Island EMS, an agency run by the Hospital District. The Hospital District also owns and operates Village at the Harbor, the only remaining long-term care facility on San Juan Island, and has recently launched Village at Home, a full-service home care agency intended to provide at-home help for residents. Village at Home is also a state-licensed healthcare worker training center that will help train those wishing to enter the healthcare field. For more information, please see the document San Juan County Public Hospital District No. 1 Year in Review for 2023 linked below.
Our island needs qualified healthcare workers for all these agencies, but without sufficient, affordable housing designed with dignity, we cannot attract nor retain healthcare workers in our community. According to the 2023 San Juan County Health Assessment, linked below, housing and healthcare access are two of our community’s three fundamental needs. Our healthcare housing project seeks to address both concerns.
We are deeply committed to our community’s welfare and are working tirelessly, along with many others, to provide everyone in our island community access to affordable housing and healthcare.
